The story behind Unii
Hi,
I am Jonathan.
If you ask people around me, they would probably tell you that I am this hyperactive guy, constantly on the move, wanting to make each day of my life a special experience, whether it is by trying a new sport, going outdoor, travelling,
or crafting something with my own hands.
I have always liked to design and create from scratch to reality.
That is why I chose to study Structural Engineering, and learn about the specificities and constraints of
various construction materials.
At that time, I also discovered the endless possibilities of Computer Aided Design!
I then made a living as a structural engineer for seven years. But despite the challenges, I got tired of my corporate job and wanted to start my own online business to regain my freedom and choose how I wanted to spend my time.
I have always known that I wanted to design a product that people could wear or take everywhere with them,
so that it would become part of their lives.
While experiencing various ideas, I came across an article reporting that over 150 000 people per year were losing their finger while wearing their wedding ring! That number stuck in my mind. I was surprised to find out about the extent of what’s called “finger avulsion” and read through testimonials of people who had lost full use of their hand
because of a careless fraction of a second.
This was it! Here was my opportunity to use my technical skills to design a ring that would not only be meaningful for the people who would wear it, but also that could be worn all year long, safely, by all kinds of professionals and athletes.
When I then looked into existing alternative rings, non of them fitted the sleek and minimalist style I was looking for.
I thus designed my first ring. A timeless 7mm wide silicone ring, with a single thin groove in the middle.
The name Unii was self-evident.
I wanted my ring to be an actual wedding ring and to symbolise the Union of two Unique individuals.
The brand logo embodies this concept and represents two lovers leaning towards each other.
I could not be happier with the result, the variety of experiences and the joy brought by Unii rings.
Customers are often sharing their stories with me. Moving stories about love, hard work, passions and recoveries…
This is a daily reminder of why I chose to devote myself to silicone rings, and encourage people to live their life
freely, safely, alongside their loved ones.
